TOM ALIEN
New children’s book helps kids deal with emotions
“The year was three million, eight thousand and four when aliens landed “PLOP” on the shore.”

With those words, the world is finally introduced to Tom Alien, the highly anticipated first picture book by Dubai-based author Sara Ghannoum, which has landed in bookstores throughout Beirut and Lebanon.

The imaginative story of a charming alien that lands on Earth and is faced with a series of emotions is certain to become a favorite for both kids and grown-ups.

“Having raised two children of my own, I know that sometimes feelings and emotions can be
overwhelming for them,” says Ghannoum. “Tom Alien was created to help children of all ages navigate through the ups and downs of feelings.”

Written in a fun rhyme, Tom Alien takes children on a whimsical journey through Hunger, Fatigue, The Blues, and, eventually, Love. The author drew inspiration from her children, and her personal experiences moving to unknown lands as a child.

“I grew up between Lebanon and Australia, and eventually moved to Dubai,” explains Ghannoum.
“Entering strange territories, be they emotional or physical, is something I have dealt with for my entire life.”

Tom Alien was brought to living color thanks to Dunja Pantic, a multidisciplinary artist, who has worked on several children’s books in the past.

It may have taken three million years for Tom Alien to land on our shores, but now that he’s here, he has found a comfortable place on every child’s bookshelf.
